somofit Member Spotlight: Maleitha B.
Maleitha has been part of the somofit community since our opening. Looking for something beyond the traditional commercial gym experience, she found a club that aligned with the way she wanted to approach her health and wellness.
“I was at a commercial gym and wanted an elevated experience. Once I found out about somofit, it was an easy decision to make.”
Originally from Hidden Valley Lake, Maleitha moved to Sonoma County in 2007 after meeting her now husband, Joel. Today, she works for the County of Sonoma and spends her free time with her family, making space for movement, recovery, and moments of quiet whenever she can.
A perfect day starts with quiet time, followed by the gym or a massage, a quick nap, and quality time with her family.
Described by friends as optimistic, disciplined, and genuine, Maleitha is proud of one thing above all else.
“That I’ve never given up on myself.”
Rediscovering Movement

Maleitha’s relationship with fitness has changed dramatically over the years.
“When I was younger exercise felt like a punishment.”
At the time, she was over 300 pounds, and movement was difficult.
“I hated exercise when I was younger because it hurt to move.”
As she lost weight and movement became easier, everything began to change. She started attending Zumba classes and, in 2018, met Conny through a mutual friend.
“She started training me and the rest is history.”
Today, her motivation comes from a completely different place.
“I love how movement makes me feel.”
Rather than exercising because she feels like she has to, she now moves for her body and her mental health.
Strength After Motherhood
When Maleitha joined somofit, she was one year postpartum and learning to navigate a body that felt different than before.
“My body changed so much that I had to get to know my body again.”
Since becoming a regular at somofit, she’s proud of the progress she’s made.
“Since I started going to somofit regularly I’ve gained my strength back and have stamina I didn’t have before.”
Her two-year-old daughter is a big part of what keeps her motivated.
“I have a two year old so staying active is a huge priority for me. I have to be able to keep up with her.”
Taking Care of Yourself First

For Maleitha, balance starts with something many people struggle to prioritize.
“I have to take care of myself first before I can take care of anyone else.”
Making time for herself a few days each week allows her to show up more fully for the people she loves.
“It’s important for me to get an hour or two to myself a few days a week. It really helps me to be present with my family.”
One of the biggest lessons movement has taught her is one she carries into every part of life.
“That I can do hard things.”
In the Room
Having known Conny since 2018, it’s no surprise she’s Maleitha’s favorite coach.
“Conny is my favorite coach because I’ve known her for so long.”
Weight training will always be her first love, but she’s recently found herself enjoying another class as well.
“My favorite classes will always be weight training but I’m actually starting to like Hot Sculpt.”
Community & Connection
Community means everything to Maleitha.
“I’ve learned that I can’t do everything by myself and it’s ok to ask for help.”
That lesson became even more meaningful after becoming a parent.
“Especially when having kids, community is essential.”
It’s one of the reasons she appreciates the somofit community so much.
“Everyone always so supportive and encouraging.”
Her family continues to be her greatest source of inspiration.
“They inspire me to keep going and to not give up. And to always remember whatever I’m going through will pass eventually.”
Soundtrack & Recovery
Maleitha’s playlist is just as eclectic as her personality.
From ’70s disco and yacht rock to ’90s R&B and 2000s hip hop, almost every genre has a place.
Her workout playlist regularly includes Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, Kaytranada, and plenty of 2000s R&B and hip hop.
One song that always puts her in a good mood?
“Mango Butter” by Durand Bernarr.
After class, her recovery routine is simple: relax in the sauna for about 15 minutes, take a shower, and, if she’s lucky, head home for a nap.
Moving With Purpose
When asked what moving with purpose means, Maleitha’s answer reflects the journey she’s been on.
“Going at my own pace and not comparing myself to others.”
For Maleitha, movement isn’t about keeping up with anyone else. It’s about continuing to grow stronger, taking care of herself, and building a healthy life for both herself and her family.
